Iyengar

Eye-ING-aar | Named after its founder, B.K.S. Iyengar

The most anatomically precise tradition. Props, alignment, holds. Born from Iyengar's own health challenges. The style most relevant to therapeutic applications and the one most directly applicable to understanding the body from the inside out.

If precision is your love language, Iyengar might be your style. Founded by B.K.S. Iyengar, one of the most influential yoga figures of the twentieth century, this practice is built entirely around proper alignment, using exact teaching cues and language to get every joint and muscle exactly where it should be.

Classes progress methodically, starting with foundational basics and building toward more advanced work only as students demonstrate readiness. It's less about flowing through a sequence and more about understanding, deeply, what each pose is actually doing to your body.

You'll notice the props immediately: blocks, straps, blankets, chairs, all used liberally to help students find correct alignment, especially useful if you're working around an injury or limited mobility. Poses are held longer and the pace is slower than something like Vinyasa, giving you time to actually feel the adjustment rather than rushing past it.
